Ancient Microbes Resurrected from Alaskan Permafrost: Implications for Climate Change

A groundbreaking study led by researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder has revived ancient microbes from Alaskan permafrost, some up to 40,000 years old. These microbes, extracted from the Permafrost Tunnel Research Facility in central Alaska, were subjected to simulated Arctic summer conditions. Within six months, they exhibited significant biological activity, including the formation of biofilms and the production of carbon dioxide.
