Anupamaa’ Holds Firm as TRP Leader While ‘Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin’ Plummets in Week 23 Rankings

India’s weekly television viewership ratings are in, and once again, Anupamaa has secured the top position on the BARC TRP charts for Week 23 of 2025, despite a marginal dip in performance. With consistent audience engagement and emotionally resonant storytelling, the show continues to dominate Indian households. Meanwhile, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Udne Ki Aasha are neck-and-neck in second place. Comedy classic Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah maintains its top-five presence, while Advocate Anjali Awasthi makes a notable comeback. In contrast, Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin has fallen dramatically, underscoring a shifting landscape in viewer preferences.

Anupamaa Continues to Reign

Rupali Ganguly’s Anupamaa remains the undisputed leader of the Indian television space, despite a slight drop in its Television Rating Point (TRP) from 2.1 last week to 2.0. Currently focusing on the titular character’s life in Mumbai as she confronts the demons of her past, the show’s continued dominance signals the enduring appeal of its mature narrative arcs and character development.

Anupamaa has managed to preserve a strong emotional connection with its loyal viewer base, particularly in urban and semi-urban households, which has helped it consistently top the charts in a competitive entertainment landscape.

Fierce Competition at Second Place

Following closely behind, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has garnered a TRP of 1.9 this week. Despite intense on-screen drama — especially around Armaan and Abhira’s evolving relationship and looming divorce — the show still trails behind Anupamaa. Featuring Rohit Purohit and Samridhii Shukla, the show has effectively captured a younger demographic, though the marginal gap between the top two suggests growing parity in viewer interest.

At the same TRP rating of 1.9, Udne Ki Aasha continues its quiet but solid performance. Starring Kanwar Dhillon and Neha Harsora, the show has carved a niche with its heartfelt storytelling. It remains a steady presence among the top five, a notable feat in a time when many shows are failing to retain traction.

Comedy and Legal Drama Add Variety to the Top Five

Long-running sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has sustained its revival in popularity, earning a TRP of 1.7 this week. Dilip Joshi’s portrayal of the beloved Jethalal continues to bring laughter to audiences, cementing the show’s position as a perennial favorite in Indian television.

Meanwhile, Advocate Anjali Awasthi has reclaimed its place in the top five, registering a TRP of 1.5. Led by Shritama Mitra, the show blends courtroom intrigue with emotional depth, contributing to its appeal. It replaced Kabhi Neem Neem Kabhi Shahad Shahad, which saw a sharp decline to a TRP of 1.3, dropping it to the tenth spot.

Other Notable Movers and Underperformers

Several other programs have retained relevance, including Mangal Lakshmi, Laughter Chefs 2: Unlimited Entertainment, and Jhanak, all making it into the top ten. However, one of the most notable declines has been Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, which now languishes in the 23rd position with a TRP of just 0.8. Once a top performer, the show’s failure to adapt to audience expectations has likely led to its stark fall in popularity.

This dramatic decline suggests the show may need a significant narrative overhaul or strategic repositioning if it is to recover its standing in the future.

Final Thoughts

Week 23 of 2025 underscores a few critical trends in Indian television: emotional storytelling and relatable characters remain powerful draws, while comedy continues to offer a welcome respite from heavy drama. New entrants are challenging the old guard, and audience loyalty is becoming increasingly dynamic. For broadcasters, these insights offer valuable guidance on evolving viewer demands and the constant need to innovate in a fiercely competitive entertainment ecosystem.
