Bajaj Auto Accelerates National Rollout of Riki E-Rickshaw to 200 Cities

Bajaj Auto is advancing its electric mobility ambitions with an aggressive nationwide rollout of its Riki e-rickshaw, targeting availability in 200 cities across India. The expansion underscores the company’s strategy to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing electric three-wheeler market, driven by rising demand for affordable, low-emission last-mile transport. By broadening its sales and service footprint, Bajaj Auto aims to capture a larger share of commercial EV adoption, improve urban mobility, and support India’s clean-transport transition. The move also reflects intensifying competition in the segment as manufacturers scale production and networks to meet evolving regulatory and market expectations.

Bajaj Auto Expands Riki E-Rickshaw Network

Bajaj Auto has unveiled an accelerated nationwide rollout plan for its Riki electric rickshaw, aiming to establish a presence in 200 Indian cities within the coming months. The company’s strategic move comes as the electric three-wheeler market continues to outpace other EV categories, supported by robust commercial demand and policy incentives that encourage clean mobility.

The expanded network includes sales operations, charging support, and a strengthened after-sales ecosystem designed to ensure operational reliability for commercial drivers—one of the most crucial determinants in adoption of electric last-mile vehicles.

Strengthening Position in the Electric Three-Wheeler Market

India’s electric three-wheeler segment has grown rapidly due to its cost efficiency, low running expenses, and suitability for dense urban environments. By pushing the Riki into 200 cities, Bajaj Auto aims to capture a significant share of this market, where both organized manufacturers and unorganized players compete intensely.

The Riki e-rickshaw has been positioned to appeal to drivers seeking an economically sustainable vehicle option. With lower operating costs compared with internal combustion rickshaws, the model is expected to boost driver earnings while reducing carbon emissions in congested city corridors.

Dealer Expansion and Service Infrastructure

As part of the rollout, Bajaj Auto is expanding its dealership network to improve accessibility for operators across Tier I, Tier II, and emerging Tier III markets. The company is also investing in service centers, spare-parts availability, and technical training to ensure timely maintenance support.

Industry experts note that dependable service infrastructure is often a deciding factor for commercial EV buyers. Bajaj Auto’s longstanding footprint in the automotive sector provides an advantage as it seeks to build trust in a segment traditionally dominated by smaller, less formal manufacturers.

Supporting India’s Transition to Electric Mobility

The nationwide expansion aligns with broader national objectives to reduce urban pollution and scale clean transportation solutions. Electric three-wheelers have become a critical pillar in India’s mobility landscape, and the introduction of more organized players into smaller markets is expected to accelerate EV penetration.

With the Riki roll-out, Bajaj Auto aims not only to widen its market presence but also to contribute to a cleaner, more efficient last-mile transport ecosystem. The initiative reflects both commercial ambition and a commitment to sustainable mobility—factors that are reshaping India’s urban transportation future.
