The investment will fuel research and development (R&D), training, and marketing efforts, alongside a substantial increase in local headcount. India is a key market for Databricks, with numerous high-profile clients already relying on its AI-driven solutions. The company has also launched the India Data + AI Academy, aiming to train half a million professionals and partners in advanced AI and data skills.

Databricks' Strategic Investment in India

In a bold move to accelerate its growth in the rapidly evolving data and AI sectors, US-based company Databricks has revealed plans to invest over USD 250 million in India. This investment, amounting to approximately Rs. 2,134 crore, will be spread over the next three years and aims to bolster innovation in the fields of data engineering, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

India, a burgeoning hub for technological advancements and home to a rapidly growing AI ecosystem, has emerged as a crucial market for Databricks. The company has already established a strong foothold in India, serving clients such as HDFC Bank, Swiggy, TVS Motors, and Zepto. Databricks’ Senior Vice President & GM for Asia Pacific & Japan, Ed Lenta, emphasized the importance of India as a key growth market, stating, "I'm excited that all our investments in India will ultimately enable our customers to become more successful in their data and AI journey."

Expansion of Workforce and R&D Efforts

As part of its substantial investment, Databricks will significantly expand its Indian workforce. The company plans to increase its headcount by 50 per cent, bringing the total number of employees in India to over 750 by the end of the current fiscal year. This expansion aligns with the company's commitment to local talent and knowledge while providing crucial support for the increasing demand for AI solutions in India.

Additionally, Databricks has recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art R&D facility in Bengaluru, which is becoming an integral part of the company’s global network of innovation hubs. The Bengaluru office is already home to over 100 engineers, with plans to hire an additional 100 R&D engineers in the coming year. This facility will play a pivotal role in accelerating Databricks’ product development and further strengthening its global research capabilities.

Databricks Data + AI Academy: Shaping the Workforce of Tomorrow

A key component of Databricks' investment strategy in India is the launch of the India Data + AI Academy. The academy aims to equip India’s workforce with the advanced skills necessary to thrive in the AI-driven economy. Over the next three years, the academy plans to train half a million professionals, partners, and customers in cutting-edge data science and AI technologies.
