India’s travel industry is witnessing a compelling recovery as consumer demand rebounds post-pandemic. According to ixigo Group’s CEO, Aloke Bajpai, the overall travel market is expected to grow by 8-9% in 2025, with online travel segments projected to expand at an even faster pace of over 18%. Ixigo aims to accelerate beyond these averages, targeting a gross transaction value (GTV) growth near 40%, capitalizing on the platform’s rising market share and customer engagement.
Bajpai attributes this momentum to consistent operational execution and a diversified business model, reflected in ixigo’s record profit after tax of Rs 16.8 crore in Q4 FY25—a remarkable 128% increase from the previous year. The company’s strong cash flows, amounting to Rs 122 crore in FY25, further highlight its operational leverage and strategic positioning.

“There is an urgent need for better infrastructure and more high-quality hotels,” Bajpai remarks, pinpointing these elements as critical factors in bolstering the country’s competitiveness on the global tourism map. Investment in world-class accommodations, efficient connectivity, and seamless travel experiences will be indispensable to convert India’s rich cultural and natural assets into sustained tourism growth.

The travel sector’s fragility in conflict-prone areas was starkly revealed by the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which disrupted a 70% year-on-year surge in bookings for April. Bajpai describes the incident as a “significant blow” to the region’s burgeoning tourism momentum and broader security perception. Subsequent government operations to restore order, such as Operation Sindoor, are critical to rebuilding traveler confidence.
