Engineering startup Ergon Labs has landed a landmark Rs. 50-crore deal with electric mobility leader Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) to supply next-generation powertrain solutions for its upcoming line of electric three-wheelers. The partnership, which also includes a strategic equity investment by OSM’s chairman, underscores a growing industry shift toward integrated EV technologies tailored for commercial-grade performance. The collaboration will begin with the L5 segment, featuring vehicles with over 500 kg payload capacity, high-gradeability, and a unique integrated power converter (IPC) that promises to enhance charging efficiency and vehicle performance in high-demand markets across India.

 

Strategic Partnership Signals Confidence in India’s EV Ecosystem

In a notable move aimed at bolstering India’s electric vehicle manufacturing capabilities, Omega Seiki Mobility has awarded Ergon Labs a Rs. 50-crore contract to develop advanced powertrain technology for its new e-three-wheeler platform. The collaboration marks a significant step forward for both companies—Omega Seiki as a growing EV OEM focused on last-mile delivery solutions, and Ergon Labs as a rising star in embedded automotive engineering.

The partnership is further cemented by a strategic investment made by Omega Seiki's founder and chairman in Ergon Labs, demonstrating strong confidence in the company’s engineering capabilities and long-term innovation roadmap. While the investment specifics remain undisclosed, its strategic nature highlights the intent to deepen technological synergies.

 

Next-Gen EVs for Commercial Payloads and Urban Terrain

Under the terms of the agreement, Ergon Labs and Omega Seiki are co-developing a high-performance cargo vehicle within the L5 category—targeted at replacing diesel-powered commercial three-wheelers in markets like Kerala and the North East, where steep gradients and variable road conditions are prevalent.

The vehicles in development are engineered to support payloads exceeding 500 kg while maintaining best-in-class gradeability of 30%, positioning them as ideal alternatives for traditional diesel cargo haulers. With the potential to displace internal combustion engine (ICE) fleets in challenging terrains, the new EVs are strategically aligned with India’s sustainable mobility goals.

 

Revolutionizing EV Architecture with Integrated Power Converter (IPC)

Central to this collaboration is Ergon Labs’ proprietary Integrated Power Converter (IPC)—a transformative innovation that merges two critical components: the on-board charger and the motor controller. This integration simplifies the vehicle architecture, reduces weight, and enhances overall performance, durability, and charging convenience.

Omega Seiki will be the first OEM in India to adopt this IPC technology, beginning with the L5 segment. According to Ergon Labs CEO Ashwin Ramanujam, the innovation is more than incremental—it represents a step-change in electric mobility efficiency. “Our IPC will enable improved gradeability, enhanced payload handling, and seamless charging experiences through tighter integration across software and hardware layers,” Ramanujam stated.

 

Scale-Up Begins with 2,000 Units and Road-Ready Certification

The commercial rollout is already on a fast track. Omega Seiki has confirmed plans to deploy an initial batch of 2,000 electric three-wheelers across India within the current fiscal year, starting with passenger variants in the L5 category—one of the fastest-growing segments in the EV space.

To ensure regulatory compliance and market readiness, the companies have completed over 50,000 km of on-road testing and have already cleared pre-certification hurdles. Full certification is expected within the coming month, allowing for a streamlined market entry.

This aggressive rollout underscores both the demand for reliable EV platforms and the companies’ shared ambition to disrupt India’s urban logistics sector.

 

Looking Ahead: Faster Charging, Smarter Mobility

Ergon Labs is not stopping here. With the IPC as a foundational innovation, the company has set its sights on delivering one-hour home charging for electric two-wheelers by 2026—another potential game-changer in the Indian EV landscape.

This roadmap reflects a broader vision of hardware-software co-optimization in EV design, positioning Ergon Labs as a pivotal technology enabler for OEMs looking to differentiate through performance and reliability.
