Granules India Reports 17% Rise in Q4 Profit, Driven by Formulations Segment Growth

Granules India delivered a robust financial performance in the quarter ended March 31, 2025, with consolidated profit after tax (PAT) rising 17% year-over-year to Rs 152 crore, buoyed by an 18% growth in its high-margin formulations segment. Despite a marginal revenue dip in FY25 to Rs 4,482 crore from Rs 4,506 crore the prior year, the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical company maintained steady sales and strong cash flow. Strategic emphasis on product mix optimization and expansion of non-legacy molecules underpinned the firm’s resilient profitability. The board has proposed a final dividend of Rs 1.50 per share for FY25.

Financial Highlights and Quarterly Performance

Granules India reported consolidated PAT of Rs 152 crore for Q4 FY25, marking a significant improvement from Rs 130 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. This 17% profit increase was supported by revenue growth in the quarter, with operations generating Rs 1,197 crore compared to Rs 1,176 crore year-over-year.

For the full fiscal year 2025, the company posted a consolidated profit after tax of Rs 501 crore, up from Rs 405 crore in FY24, underscoring a steady upward trajectory in bottom-line performance. However, overall revenue experienced a slight decline, falling to Rs 4,482 crore from Rs 4,506 crore during the prior year.

Strategic Growth in Formulations Segment

Chairman and Managing Director Krishna Prasad Chigurupati attributed the company’s financial resilience to its strategic pivot towards high-margin formulations. “We are pleased to report a resilient bottom line and cash flow performance this year, despite sales remaining steady. This was achieved with a profitable formulations growth of 18%,” he said.

Granules India’s success stems from its deliberate enhancement of the product mix by prioritizing non-legacy molecules—innovative products beyond traditional generic drugs. This focus has allowed the company to expand its portfolio, improving profitability and sustaining growth in a competitive pharmaceutical landscape.

Dividend Declaration and Market Reaction

Reflecting confidence in its financial health, the company’s board has recommended a final dividend of Rs 1.50 per equity share with a face value of Re 1 for the financial year 2024-25.

Despite the encouraging results, the company’s shares closed slightly lower at Rs 522.05 per share on the Bombay Stock Exchange, down 1.29%, suggesting some investor caution amid broader market conditions.

Outlook and Industry Context

Granules India’s strategic initiatives have positioned it well to navigate an evolving pharmaceutical sector marked by increasing regulatory scrutiny and pricing pressures. The firm’s focus on high-margin formulations and diversification beyond legacy products should bolster sustainable earnings growth moving forward.

As the global demand for complex generic formulations rises, companies like Granules India with a strong R&D pipeline and balanced product mix are poised to capitalize on emerging opportunities in domestic and international markets. This will be crucial as the firm seeks to maintain momentum and deliver shareholder value amid intensifying competition.
