India Gears Up for Assembly Bypolls in Four States Amid Tightened Election Protocols

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for upcoming by-elections to fill vacant legislative assembly seats in Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal. Scheduled for June 19, with results to be declared on June 23, the elections follow vacancies caused by resignations and deaths of sitting legislators. Alongside the poll announcement, the Commission introduced revised guidelines to streamline polling-day procedures and enhance security, including new rules for canvassing and the restricted use of mobile phones near polling stations.

Titagarh Rail & BHEL Launch Dedicated Facility for Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd. (TRSL), in strategic partnership with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), has inaugurated a state-of-the-art production line at its Uttarpara facility in West Bengal for India’s first-ever Vande Bharat sleeper trains. This milestone follows the awarding of a Rs. 24,000 crore contract by Indian Railways to the TRSL-BHEL consortium for the design, manufacture, and maintenance of 80 semi-high-speed sleeper train sets over 35 years.

JSW Energy’s Rs. 16,000 Crore Thermal Power Push in West Bengal Signals a Strategic Shift in India’s Energy Equation

JSW Energy Ltd. is set to commence construction on a massive Rs. 16,000 crore supercritical thermal power project in Salboni, West Bengal. The 1,600 MW facility — comprising two 800 MW units — was awarded through competitive bidding by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd. and is expected to be completed within five years. A 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has already been signed with the state utility.
