Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), the country’s leading power trading platform, reported a 25% year-on-year increase in net profit for the first quarter of FY2025, reaching Rs. 121 crore. The surge in earnings was supported by a notable uptick in trading volumes across key market segments, including the Day-Ahead Market (DAM), Real-Time Market (RTM), and Green Energy segments. Enhanced platform efficiency, improved power availability, and a diversified participant base also contributed to the exchange’s solid financial performance. The Q1 results reaffirm IEX’s role as a critical enabler of power market liquidity and energy transition in India.
Q1 Performance: Earnings Reflect Broad-Based Market Strength
IEX delivered a strong start to the fiscal year, recording a 25% jump in net profit to Rs. 121 crore for the April–June quarter, up from Rs. 97 crore in the corresponding period last year. This growth came on the back of higher transaction volumes, which drove increased fee income and improved operational leverage.
The company’s revenue from operations rose in tandem with market activity, reflecting increased participation from industrial consumers, distribution companies (DISCOMs), and renewable energy players.
Surge in Market Volumes Across Segments
During Q1 FY2025, IEX witnessed substantial growth in volumes traded across its core market segments. The Day-Ahead Market and Real-Time Market, both essential for managing short-term power procurement and grid stability, registered healthy gains amid rising electricity demand across regions.
The Green Term-Ahead Market (GTAM) and the Green Day-Ahead Market (GDAM) also saw a strong uptick in participation as more entities sought to meet their renewable energy obligations through exchange-based procurement. These trends highlight the growing importance of IEX as a flexible and transparent platform for energy transition.
Renewable Energy Integration Gathers Momentum
The company’s focus on green market products has positioned it well in the evolving energy ecosystem. With state utilities and open access consumers increasingly turning to clean energy, IEX’s green market offerings provide a cost-efficient and reliable mechanism to procure renewable power while complying with regulatory mandates.
The continued expansion of green energy volumes on the platform underlines IEX’s role in facilitating India’s decarbonization agenda and supporting the government’s long-term renewable energy targets.
