Electric vehicle (EV) energy-tech firm Kazam has secured USD 6.2 million (approximately Rs. 53 crore) in Series B funding, with participation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and existing backers Vertex Ventures SEA & India and Avaana Capital Advisors. This capital infusion is intended to propel Kazam’s next phase of expansion, with a focus on developing digital infrastructure to support India's transition to clean mobility. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Kazam has now raised a total of USD 19.2 million, further strengthening its positioning as a key player in the evolving EV ecosystem across emerging markets.

Strategic Investment to Support Green Mobility

The USD 6.2 million raised in Kazam’s latest funding round marks a pivotal moment for the company as it continues to expand its suite of energy transition tools. The fresh capital will enable Kazam to scale its digital solutions across additional markets, enhancing the backbone infrastructure necessary to support electric vehicle adoption in India and beyond.

Kazam is working at the intersection of clean energy, digital transformation, and transport electrification—an area drawing increased investor and policy attention. By offering data-driven solutions and real-time charging station management systems, the company aims to ease the operational hurdles facing the EV sector.

Key Investors Signal Confidence in Kazam’s Vision

This round saw participation from notable institutional investors. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group and a prominent global development finance institution, joined as a new investor. IFC’s backing signals a vote of confidence not only in Kazam’s business model but also in the broader mission of decarbonizing mobility in emerging markets.

Returning investors, Vertex Ventures SEA & India and Avaana Capital Advisors, reinforced their commitment by participating in the round, affirming their long-term belief in the company’s strategic direction. These firms have been involved in previous rounds and are known for backing scalable, impact-driven technology ventures.

Kazam’s Capital Journey and Market Role

Including the current Series B round, Kazam has now raised USD 19.2 million in capital. This includes earlier equity rounds amounting to USD 13 million, which were led by Avaana Capital, Vertex Ventures, and Chakra Ventures.

Founded in Bengaluru, Kazam positions itself as a digital infrastructure enabler for EVs at scale. With India and other emerging economies gearing up for large-scale EV integration, the need for backend software, intelligent grid connectivity, and charger reliability is more pronounced than ever.

According to Akshay Shekhar, CEO and Co-founder of Kazam, the company is building “critical digital infrastructure” that will underpin the transition to clean mobility. In his words, “Our mission is to make energy accessible and intelligent. This funding will empower us to help fleet operators, utilities, and EV ecosystem stakeholders navigate and optimize their operations.”

EV Sector Outlook and Kazam’s Strategic Advantage

India’s EV sector is undergoing a rapid transformation, driven by government incentives, rising fuel costs, and growing environmental awareness. However, a lack of adequate charging infrastructure and digital integration remains a bottleneck. Kazam addresses this need by providing real-time data solutions and energy management tools that optimize EV charging and grid utilization.

The company's platform connects charging stations, aggregators, fleet owners, and power utilities through an intelligent software interface—enabling a smarter, more reliable EV charging network. This is especially valuable in high-density urban areas and for fleet operators managing large EV deployments.

Conclusion: A Step Forward for Sustainable Urban Mobility

With this latest investment, Kazam is well-positioned to scale its operations and contribute meaningfully to India’s clean mobility goals. As EV adoption accelerates, companies like Kazam—offering scalable, digital-first infrastructure—will play a pivotal role in shaping the urban transportation landscape.

For institutional investors and policymakers alike, this development signals a maturing EV ecosystem where backend innovation is just as critical as hardware deployment. Kazam’s growth story thus exemplifies how capital, technology, and mission-driven entrepreneurship can converge to power a greener, more sustainable future.
