Nissan Reaffirms Commitment to Indian Market with New Models, Expanded Dealership Network, and CNG Rollout

Dispelling recent rumors of a possible exit from India, Nissan has made it unequivocally clear that it remains deeply committed to the Indian automotive landscape. The Japanese automaker plans to launch three new vehicles by early 2027, expand its dealership footprint, and target robust domestic and export sales. Additionally, Nissan is rolling out a government-approved CNG retrofitment for its popular Magnite SUV, beginning with a phased launch across seven states. With an eye on strengthening its market position, Nissan's India strategy centers on a diversified product portfolio, sustainable mobility, and deeper customer engagement.

Nissan Dismisses Exit Speculation

In a decisive statement during a virtual press briefing, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, firmly denied speculation about the automaker’s potential withdrawal from India. “We are here and we are here to stay,” he asserted, addressing concerns that arose after Renault acquired Nissan’s 51% stake in their Indian manufacturing joint venture—Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd (RNAIPL)—earlier this year.

Vatsa emphasized that the stake transfer does not signal a retreat but rather an operational realignment. “Our production plans, capacity expansions, and long-term strategy remain intact,” he said.

Aggressive Product Pipeline Until 2027

Nissan’s roadmap for India includes the launch of three new models within the next three years. These include a seven-seater B-segment multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) set for the first quarter of calendar year 2026, and two versions of a C-segment SUV—both five- and seven-seater variants—by early 2027.

This multi-product approach is intended to reinvigorate Nissan’s market relevance in segments witnessing strong consumer demand. The new offerings aim to align with the evolving preferences of Indian car buyers while also leveraging global product synergies.

Expansion of Dealership Network

While acknowledging that a few dealers had exited the brand, Vatsa shared that Nissan is actively onboarding new sales partners. “We currently have about 160 sales outlets. By the end of this year, we aim to increase that number to 180,” he said.

The expansion underscores the brand’s focus on accessibility and aftersales service, essential pillars for growth in India’s competitive auto market.

Magnite SUV Gets CNG Boost

Further cementing its foothold in India, Nissan has announced that its Magnite SUV will be offered with a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit. Priced at an additional Rs 74,999, the CNG upgrade aims to appeal to value-conscious consumers seeking cost-effective and eco-friendly alternatives.

The rollout will be phased, starting with installations available at authorized dealerships in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, and Karnataka. A wider national rollout is planned under Phase 2 of the program.

Sales Ambitions: One Lakh Units Domestically and Abroad

Nissan has set an ambitious target for the current fiscal year: to sell 100,000 vehicles each in the domestic and export markets. This dual-market strategy leverages India’s role as both a manufacturing hub and a growing consumer market for global automotive players.

The company is expected to continue focusing on competitive pricing, feature-rich models, and innovation to achieve this goal.

Strategic Commitment to India

Vatsa reiterated Nissan’s long-standing relationship with India, stretching back nearly six decades. The company’s future plans, he said, are deeply rooted in the domestic market's potential.

“India is not an afterthought. It is a key pillar of our global strategy,” he noted. Nissan’s continued investment in new products, dealership expansion, and cleaner mobility options signals a broader commitment to aligning with both consumer expectations and regulatory shifts in one of the world’s most dynamic automotive markets.

Conclusion

Nissan’s latest announcements mark a definitive pivot towards long-term engagement in India, countering speculation with a clear action plan. By integrating innovation, sustainability, and localization, the company is reinforcing its presence while preparing for the next phase of growth in a highly competitive environment.
