Consumer Durables on the Rise: Why Appliances and Electronics Are Set for Strong Growth in 2026

By Gurleen Bajwa , 29 December 2025

India’s appliances and electronics sector is poised for accelerated expansion in 2026, driven by rising disposable incomes, rapid urbanization and a sustained push toward premiumization. Industry participants are benefiting from improving supply chains, policy support for domestic manufacturing and growing consumer appetite for energy-efficient and smart products. Demand is no longer confined to metros, with Tier II and Tier III cities emerging as significant growth engines. As companies invest in capacity, technology and branding, the sector is evolving into a key contributor to industrial output and employment. Analysts expect steady revenue growth, margin expansion and heightened investor interest.

A Sector Entering a New Growth Phase

The appliances and electronics industry is transitioning from cyclical recovery to structural growth. After years of demand volatility, companies are now witnessing more predictable consumption patterns, supported by stable macroeconomic conditions and rising household penetration of consumer durables. Refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and televisions continue to anchor volumes, while newer categories such as smart appliances and connected devices are gaining traction.

Industry estimates suggest mid- to high-single-digit volume growth in 2026, with value growth expected to outpace volumes due to premium product mix and price discipline.

Premiumization and Technology Adoption

A defining trend shaping the sector is premiumization. Consumers are increasingly opting for feature-rich, energy-efficient and aesthetically designed products. In categories such as air conditioners and large-screen televisions, premium models now account for a growing share of sales, improving average selling prices and profitability for manufacturers.

Technological integration is another catalyst. Smart connectivity, IoT-enabled controls and AI-driven efficiency features are no longer niche offerings. These innovations are becoming mainstream, allowing brands to differentiate while justifying higher price points.

Manufacturing Push and Supply Chain Resilience

Government initiatives aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing have strengthened the sector’s fundamentals. Incentive-led localization has reduced dependence on imports, improved cost structures and enhanced supply chain resilience. Several companies have announced fresh capital expenditure plans to expand capacity and localize key components.

This shift is also translating into improved working capital cycles and reduced foreign exchange exposure, factors closely watched by investors and lenders.

Expanding Demand Beyond Metros

Growth in 2026 is expected to be increasingly broad-based. Rural recovery, improved electrification and wider availability of consumer finance are driving demand in smaller cities and towns. E-commerce and omnichannel retail models are helping brands penetrate underserved markets more efficiently.

From a business perspective, this geographic diversification reduces concentration risk and supports long-term volume stability.

Outlook for Investors and Industry

For investors, the appliances and electronics sector presents a compelling mix of steady cash flows and growth optionality. Companies with strong brands, efficient distribution networks and a focus on innovation are best positioned to outperform.

As consumption-led growth regains momentum, the sector is likely to play a more prominent role in India’s manufacturing and consumption story in 2026 and beyond, reinforcing its appeal as a durable long-term investment theme.
