India’s EV Retail Market Accelerates, Sales Climb Over 16% in 2025

India’s electric vehicle (EV) market recorded a strong acceleration in 2025, with retail sales rising 16.37 percent year on year, according to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA). The growth underscores rising consumer acceptance of electric mobility, supported by improving charging infrastructure, expanding model choices and supportive government policies. From two-wheelers to passenger cars and commercial fleets, EV adoption gained momentum across segments. The performance highlights a structural shift in India’s automotive market as buyers increasingly factor in sustainability, lower operating costs and long-term fuel savings.

Retail Sales Reflect Growing EV Acceptance

FADA data shows EV retail sales expanded by 16.37 percent in 2025, marking one of the strongest growth phases for electric mobility in the country. Dealers reported steady footfalls and higher conversion rates as consumers became more familiar with EV technology and ownership economics.

The trend suggests that electric vehicles are moving beyond early adopters into the mainstream market.

Segment-Wise Momentum Across Categories

Two-wheelers continued to account for a significant share of EV volumes, driven by affordability and daily commuting needs. Passenger EVs also posted healthy gains, aided by new launches and improving driving range.

In the commercial segment, fleet operators increasingly turned to electric options to reduce fuel costs and meet sustainability targets, further supporting overall sales growth.

Infrastructure and Policy Support

The expansion of public and private charging networks has played a critical role in boosting consumer confidence. At the same time, government incentives, including subsidies and tax benefits, have helped narrow the upfront cost gap between electric and conventional vehicles.

Industry experts note that policy consistency has been key to sustaining demand growth.

Implications for Automakers and Dealers

Rising EV retail sales are reshaping strategies across the automotive value chain. Automakers are accelerating investments in electric platforms, while dealers are upgrading showrooms, training staff and enhancing after-sales capabilities.

Higher EV penetration is also prompting ancillary industries, such as batteries and charging equipment, to scale operations.

Outlook for the EV Market

Looking ahead, industry bodies expect EV sales growth to remain robust as technology improves and costs continue to decline. While challenges around charging density and supply chains persist, the 16.37 percent rise in 2025 signals a clear shift toward electric mobility.
