Filter Capital Bets Big on India’s Digital MSME Finance Revolution with Rs 85 Crore Stake in M1xchange

In a strategic move that underscores the growing promise of digital financial infrastructure, Filter Capital has invested approximately Rs 85 crore (USD 10 million) in M1xchange, a leading trade receivables discounting platform. This secondary transaction signals robust investor confidence in the role of digital supply chain financing as a game-changer for India’s underserved micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). With monthly invoice financing volumes nearing Rs 10,000 crore and cumulative throughput of over Rs 1.75 lakh crore, M1xchange is rapidly cementing its status as a fintech cornerstone in the country’s formal credit ecosystem.

Strategic Investment to Accelerate MSME Credit Access

Filter Capital’s investment into M1xchange is not merely a capital infusion—it is a strategic endorsement of India’s emerging digital credit infrastructure. Announced on Monday, the deal reflects a broader trend among institutional investors to back fintech platforms enabling greater financial inclusion.

"M1xchange has built a scalable, three-sided platform with strong network effects and a compelling value proposition for all parties involved," said Zareer Shroff, Principal at Filter Capital. Shroff emphasized the platform’s unique ability to innovate while maintaining operational discipline and consistent revenue growth—qualities that made it a compelling addition to Filter Capital’s growth-stage portfolio.

M1xchange: A Fintech Lifeline for MSMEs

Founded by Sundeep Mohindru and Vivek Misra, M1xchange operates within the RBI’s TReDS (Trade Receivables Discounting System) framework, facilitating seamless invoice financing for small businesses. With approximately Rs 10,000 crore in monthly invoice volumes, the platform connects MSMEs, corporate buyers, and financial institutions in a mutually beneficial ecosystem.

The company claims to have enabled more than Rs 1.75 lakh crore (USD 20 billion) in cumulative invoice discounting to date. This performance reflects both its technological competence and the urgent market need for reliable, formal credit mechanisms for India’s 60 million MSMEs.

Digital Supply Chain Finance: A Sector on the Rise

India’s supply chain finance sector is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by structural policy support, the digitalization of financial workflows, and the pressing credit needs of MSMEs. M1xchange and its peers are capitalizing on this shift, offering real-time receivables discounting to improve working capital efficiency for small businesses.

The sector has become a focal point for investment firms seeking long-term exposure to India’s financial inclusion narrative. According to Filter Capital Co-founder and Managing Director Nitin Nayar, “Despite contributing nearly 30% to India’s GDP, MSMEs remain severely underserved in terms of formal credit access. Platforms like M1xchange are poised to change that.”

Network Effects and Regulatory Tailwinds

M1xchange’s growth is being propelled by two key factors: network effects and a favorable regulatory environment. The company operates a three-sided exchange, engaging MSMEs, large enterprises, and financial institutions in a loop that strengthens with scale. The RBI’s support through the TReDS framework lends further legitimacy and trust, making digital discounting increasingly mainstream.

These advantages have allowed M1xchange to attract not just capital but also deep institutional partnerships, setting it apart in an increasingly competitive landscape.

The Road Ahead

With Filter Capital now onboard, M1xchange is expected to ramp up product development, expand its client base, and explore new verticals within the trade finance ecosystem. The latest funding round comes at a time when investor appetite for digital-first, impact-driven financial platforms in India is reaching new highs.

This investment is more than a bet on a single company—it’s a vote of confidence in the future of MSME financing, a sector critical to India’s long-term economic resilience.
