IPO Momentum Returns: Six Companies, Including Leela Operator Schloss Bangalore, Aim to Raise Over Rs. 11,600 Cr in May

By Nitin Mohan Mishra , 20 May 2025

India’s IPO market, which witnessed a sluggish start in early 2025, is regaining steam with six main-board companies preparing to go public this month, aiming to collectively raise Rs. 11,669 crore. Leading the pack is Schloss Bangalore Ltd., the owner of the iconic Leela hotel chain, with a Rs. 5,000 crore offering. Other notable entrants include Borana Weaves, Belrise Industries, Aegis Vopak Terminals, ArisInfra Solutions, and Scoda Tubes. This revival comes after a blockbuster 2024 but reflects investor caution amid global and domestic volatility. Market experts anticipate that more IPOs will follow once market conditions stabilize.

IPO Pipeline Reignites After Early-Year Lull

After a relatively subdued beginning to the year, India’s capital markets are witnessing renewed IPO activity, with six prominent firms gearing up to go public in May. This fresh wave of listings signals a potential revival in investor sentiment and capital-raising opportunities, following a cautious phase driven by global economic uncertainties and domestic market fluctuations.

Investment bankers estimate that these six upcoming initial public offerings will collectively raise Rs. 11,669 crore, marking a significant injection of fresh equity into the public markets.

IPO Calendar: Who’s Launching and When?

Two companies are set to open their public issues this week:

  • Borana Weaves will launch its Rs. 144 crore IPO on May 20.
  • Belrise Industries, a Pune-based firm, will follow on May 21 with a much larger Rs. 2,150 crore offering.

The remaining four companies are expected to initiate their IPO processes next week:

  • Schloss Bangalore Ltd., the parent of Leela Palaces Hotels & Resorts, plans a combined offering of Rs. 5,000 crore — comprising a Rs. 3,000 crore fresh issue and a Rs. 2,000 crore offer-for-sale by promoter Project Ballet Bangalore Holdings (DIFC) Pvt. Ltd.
  • Aegis Vopak Terminals, a subsidiary of Aegis Logistics Ltd., aims to raise Rs. 3,500 crore via a fresh equity issue.
  • ArisInfra Solutions Ltd., a tech-enabled construction material provider, is targeting Rs. 600 crore.
  • Scoda Tubes, a Gujarat-based firm in the manufacturing sector, will offer a Rs. 275 crore fresh issue.

Price bands for these offerings are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Market Conditions: Slow Start to 2025, Brisk Filing Activity

The pickup in IPO activity comes after a lukewarm start to 2025. As of mid-May, only 10 companies had launched main-board IPOs, a stark contrast to the blockbuster IPO season of 2024, when 91 firms raised a total of Rs. 1.6 lakh crore.

The slowdown has been largely attributed to rising global interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and investor caution in the face of elevated market volatility.

However, the pipeline remains healthy. According to the Axis Capital IPO Market Update (May 2025):

  • 57 companies have received final approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
  • 74 additional firms are currently awaiting SEBI’s final observation.

This backlog suggests that once macroeconomic conditions stabilize, a surge of public offerings could quickly flood the market.

Sectoral Snapshot: A Broad Cross-Section of the Economy

The upcoming IPOs span a diverse array of industries — from renewable energy and healthcare to chemicals, manufacturing, real estate, and even entertainment. This reflects the growing depth and maturity of India’s capital markets, as more companies across the value chain seek public funding for growth, innovation, and market expansion.

Notably, several Indian subsidiaries of multinational corporations (MNCs) are also preparing to list, reinforcing India’s status as a favored investment destination.

Conclusion: IPO Market Poised for Resurgence

While early 2025 saw investors taking a step back amid macroeconomic uncertainty, the latest wave of IPO announcements could signal a turning point. The upcoming offerings — led by high-profile names such as Schloss Bangalore and Aegis Vopak Terminals — will serve as a litmus test for market appetite and pricing resilience.

If successfully executed, these listings could restore confidence in primary markets and set the stage for a strong second half of the year, particularly as the broader economy continues to demonstrate structural strength.
