Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector entity under India’s Ministry of Power, has announced the appointment of Akhilesh Kumar Dixit as its new Chief Executive Officer. With over three decades of experience in power transmission and corporate leadership, Dixit’s entry marks a strategic push to evolve EESL into a next-generation energy solutions firm. Previously serving as Chief General Manager at Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (Powergrid), Dixit is expected to drive EESL’s mission of accelerating sustainable technology deployment and furthering India’s energy efficiency goals. His appointment is effective immediately.

Leadership Change at EESL

In a significant leadership move, Energy Efficiency Services Limited confirmed that Akhilesh Kumar Dixit has assumed charge as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 10, 2025. The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the organization, which is positioning itself to lead India’s clean energy revolution.

Dixit brings a wealth of experience from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, where he most recently held the position of Chief General Manager. His appointment was formally announced in a corporate statement issued by EESL.

A Proven Veteran in Power Sector Management

An electrical engineering graduate, Dixit boasts over 32 years of experience across a wide array of functions, including substation and transmission line operations, business development, corporate social responsibility (CSR), human resources, and procurement. This multidisciplinary background equips him with the strategic versatility to guide EESL through a fast-evolving energy landscape.

His extensive operational and leadership tenure at Powergrid is widely regarded as a strong foundation for his new role at EESL, where he will be tasked with enhancing organizational efficiency, expanding project portfolios, and accelerating public-private collaborations.

Strategic Vision and National Commitment

In his first remarks following the appointment, Dixit emphasized his commitment to leveraging EESL’s legacy while embracing cutting-edge innovation. “I look forward to building on EESL's strong legacy while charting a bold path forward—one that integrates smart technologies, fosters inclusive growth, and delivers measurable impact for our nation,” he said.

His leadership is expected to focus on integrating digital technologies into energy management, expanding decentralized renewable energy projects, and scaling up public sector initiatives in line with India’s National Energy Efficiency Mission.

EESL’s Role in India’s Energy Efficiency Agenda

EESL was established as a joint venture among major public sector undertakings—NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation, and Powergrid—with the specific mandate of implementing energy efficiency projects at scale. The company is globally recognized for pioneering large-scale deployment of LED lighting and energy-efficient appliances.

As India ramps up its climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, EESL’s role has become increasingly critical in bridging the gap between policy objectives and grassroots implementation. With Dixit at the helm, the company is expected to explore next-generation energy services, including electric mobility, smart metering, and demand-side management solutions.

Looking Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities

While the potential is significant, Dixit’s new role is not without its challenges. He will have to navigate a complex policy landscape, manage stakeholder expectations across ministries and state governments, and ensure financial sustainability of projects amid shifting market dynamics.

Nonetheless, with a proven track record and strategic clarity, his appointment is widely seen as a step toward reinforcing EESL’s position as a leader in energy innovation and sustainability.
