Reliance General Insurance, a key subsidiary of the newly acquired Reliance Capital, posted a 12.5 percent rise in net profit for the financial year ending March 2025, signaling a successful turnaround after years under insolvency proceedings. Backed by its new promoter, IndusInd International Holdings Ltd (IIHL), the company reported significant growth across financial indicators, including gross premiums, net worth, and solvency margins. With fresh capital infusion and strategic clarity, the insurer appears poised for a new era of expansion and innovation within India's increasingly competitive general insurance landscape.
Post-Acquisition Revival Reflects in Financial Results
Reliance General Insurance marked a notable recovery in FY25, reporting a net profit of Rs. 315 crore, up 12.5 percent from the previous fiscal year. This achievement comes on the heels of a challenging three-year period under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), culminating in the acquisition of its parent entity, Reliance Capital, by IndusInd International Holdings Ltd (IIHL) in March 2025.
The company’s Gross Direct Premium (GDP) climbed to Rs. 12,548 crore, registering a 7.4 percent increase year-on-year—surpassing the general insurance industry’s average growth rate of 5.2 percent. The insurer’s net worth also rose to Rs. 3,429 crore, reflecting a healthy 10.2 percent gain over FY24.
Strategic Capital Infusion Strengthens Financial Backbone
To reinforce its balance sheet and operational agility, IIHL infused Rs. 100 crore into Reliance General Insurance in May 2025, following an earlier capital injection of Rs. 300 crore during the insolvency resolution process. These financial commitments signal the Hinduja-backed group’s long-term confidence in the insurer’s growth prospects and strategic role in its broader financial services portfolio.
The company's solvency margin stood at 159 percent at the end of FY25, exceeding the regulatory requirement of 150 percent, underlining its renewed financial stability and underwriting discipline.
CEO Highlights Strategic Execution Amid Volatile Conditions
Chief Executive Officer Rakesh Jain emphasized that the company’s FY25 performance was driven by "disciplined execution, strategic investments, and resilient growth," despite a volatile and dynamic market landscape. He reiterated the company's commitment to offering innovative and trusted insurance products that align with the aspirations of millions of Indian consumers.
Jain also acknowledged the transformative nature of the corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) for Reliance Capital, describing FY25 as a foundational year under the leadership of IIHL. “With IIHL’s robust financial backing and expertise in the financial services sector, we are optimistic about accelerating our growth trajectory and pioneering the next phase of innovation in India’s general insurance ecosystem,” he noted.
Looking Ahead: Growth with Stability
Now under stable ownership, Reliance General Insurance is strategically positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities in India’s insurance sector, especially as the economy continues to formalize and digital adoption accelerates. The backing of IIHL provides not only financial muscle but also operational experience, which will be crucial in navigating regulatory complexities and fostering long-term growth.
With improved solvency, rising premiums, and renewed strategic focus, Reliance General Insurance appears set to reclaim its position as a formidable player in India's insurance landscape, while contributing meaningfully to the industry’s broader evolution.
