Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is preparing for one of the most significant and transformative roles of his career — portraying Colonel B Santosh Babu, the decorated officer who led the 16th Bihar Regiment during the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. Under the direction of Apoorva Lakhia, the yet-to-be-announced film, inspired by the best-selling book India’s Most Fearless, is expected to begin filming in July 2025. The ambitious project will blend authentic action sequences at real locations with studio work, paying homage to India’s military valor. Production is set to conclude by November 2025.

A New Chapter in Salman Khan’s Career

Stepping away from his signature on-screen persona, Salman Khan is reportedly immersed in intense preparation to portray Colonel B Santosh Babu — a national hero who exemplified courage during the 2020 Galwan Valley confrontation. Sources indicate that Khan is undergoing a rigorous fitness regime, focusing on achieving a lean and disciplined physique that reflects the stature of an army officer. This role marks a thoughtful departure for the actor, aiming to highlight stories of real-life heroism.

Khan recently sparked public excitement when he was photographed sporting a thick moustache and a rugged look — a transformation fans speculate is tied to this role.

Production Timeline and Locations

The film’s production plan is as ambitious as its theme. The first schedule, slated for July 2025, will involve a 25-day shoot in Ladakh to capture the raw authenticity of the terrain where the Galwan incident unfolded. Subsequent sequences will be filmed at a studio in Mumbai, blending on-location realism with controlled set pieces. The team aims for a wrap-up by November 2025, leveraging bulk dates allocated by Khan to ensure continuity and focus.

Action sequences will reportedly be shot at actual sites to maintain historical fidelity, while Mumbai will host intricate indoor scenes requiring advanced production design.

Casting Strategy and Creative Vision

Alongside Khan, the film will feature three additional principal characters. The makers are currently finalizing casting, reportedly seeking credible talent beyond the usual roster of in-house actors. This deliberate strategy underscores the production’s commitment to authenticity and dramatic depth.

A look test is expected in early July, which could coincide with the film’s formal announcement — a move designed to generate anticipation while showcasing Khan’s military-inspired transformation.

A Tribute Beyond Entertainment

More than just another star vehicle, this project aspires to honor the sacrifice and bravery of India’s armed forces. Apoorva Lakhia’s directorial vision, combined with Khan’s star power, could bring a powerful and respectful portrayal of the Galwan hero to the silver screen, deepening public awareness of modern military history.

Khan’s last outing, Sikandar — now streaming on Netflix — marked a commercial success. However, this upcoming venture signals a creative pivot toward storytelling rooted in national pride and historical relevance.
