Senvion India has confirmed a landmark order from Continuum Green Energy for 100 wind turbine generators with a combined capacity of 420 megawatts. Initially a conditional agreement from September 2024, the deal has now fully committed all units, marking a significant step forward in India’s renewable energy push. Deliveries will commence in April 2026, deploying advanced turbines specifically engineered for Indian wind conditions. With over 85% of components manufactured domestically, this order underscores a robust Indo-German collaboration and highlights the growing focus on indigenous manufacturing, job creation, and bolstering India’s energy security through sustainable solutions.

Senvion India Finalizes Large-Scale Wind Turbine Supply Agreement

Senvion India, a prominent name in the renewable energy sector, has officially secured an order from Continuum Green Energy for the supply of 100 wind turbine generators (WTGs), cumulatively rated at 420 megawatts. This follows a conditional contract signed in September 2024, which initially confirmed 50 turbines and provisionally included 50 more. The recent confirmation cements the entire order, signaling a deepening commitment between the two firms to advance India’s wind energy infrastructure.

Deployment and Delivery Timeline

Scheduled for commencement in April 2026, the deliveries will support multiple project sites identified by Senvion and developed by Continuum Green Energy. This phased deployment is expected to accelerate wind power capacity addition across strategic locations, enhancing India’s renewable energy footprint.

Advanced Technology Tailored for Indian Wind Conditions

At the core of this agreement is the 4.2M160 series, an onshore wind turbine platform engineered through a collaborative Indo-German effort. These turbines are optimized to perform reliably under diverse wind regimes typical to India’s geography. Crucially, more than 85% of the turbine components will be produced within India, reflecting the government’s focus on ‘Make in India’ initiatives and fostering local industrial growth.

Amit Kansal, CEO and Managing Director of Senvion India, emphasized the bespoke nature of these turbines: “Designed specifically for Indian wind and environmental conditions, these machines represent our commitment to supporting the country’s renewable ambitions. With a target deployment of 2 gigawatts in 2026, Senvion is poised to create significant employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to national energy security.”

Strategic Implications for India’s Renewable Energy Landscape

While the precise financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, the scale and nature of the order signal strong investor confidence in India’s green energy transition. As the country aims to diversify its energy mix and reduce carbon emissions, such collaborations play a critical role in enhancing indigenous manufacturing capacity and technological self-reliance.

Senvion India’s leadership position in the wind energy manufacturing sector is further solidified by this deal, which is likely to catalyze similar large-scale projects across the country.

Conclusion: Building a Sustainable Energy Future

The confirmation of this substantial wind turbine order is a positive indicator of India’s accelerating renewable energy journey. By integrating advanced turbine technology tailored for local conditions with robust domestic production, the partnership between Senvion India and Continuum Green Energy exemplifies a strategic pathway toward sustainable growth, energy independence, and environmental stewardship.
