Torii by Gauri Khan: A Culinary Sanctuary with a Secret Door for Bollywood’s First Family

Gauri Khan’s upscale Mumbai restaurant, Torii, has become the latest epicenter of glamour and gastronomy, featuring an exclusive entrance reserved for her husband Shah Rukh Khan and their children Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam. In a recent interview, the restaurant’s head chef Stefan Gadit revealed details about the "secret doorway" used by the Khans, along with their culinary preferences. From Shah Rukh’s fondness for lamb chops to Suhana and Aryan’s hangouts with friends, the restaurant has emerged not only as a hotspot for elite dining but also a cozy haven for India’s most celebrated film family.

An Exclusive Entry for the Khans

At the heart of Torii’s buzz lies an intriguing architectural detail—a discreet, restricted-access entryway known only to a few. Chef Stefan Gadit confirmed in a recent interview that this "secret door" was specifically designed to provide privacy for the Khan family. “Not everybody has access to the secret doorway; it’s for the Khans,” he said, reinforcing the restaurant’s reputation for exclusivity.

The setup reflects not only the star power of Shah Rukh Khan but also the strategic attention to privacy in a city where celebrity appearances can spark chaos. This private access ensures the family can enjoy their meals away from prying eyes while still participating in the city’s vibrant dining culture.

A Family Affair: The Khans’ Culinary Preferences

According to Gadit, the Khans are not just symbolic patrons—they’re regulars. While Shah Rukh occasionally dines in, the family also opts for home delivery. Each member, it seems, has a distinct palate. AbRam, the youngest, is a fan of the restaurant’s sushi offerings. Gauri Khan prefers the Thai curry, while Shah Rukh leans toward the restaurant’s signature lamb chops.

Suhana and Aryan Khan are known to visit Torii with friends, turning the space into a youthful yet elite social setting. The family recently hosted a celebration at the restaurant for Shah Rukh’s long-time manager, Pooja Dadlani, further cementing Torii’s role as a preferred private venue.

Torii: Where Design Meets Haute Cuisine

Torii is more than just a dining space—it’s a physical extension of Gauri Khan’s design philosophy. Launched on Valentine’s Day in 2024, the restaurant gained early attention thanks to a star-studded unveiling on the Netflix reality show Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. Attendees included celebrity interior designer Sussanne Khan and Bollywood insiders like Maheep Kapoor, Bhavana Pandey, Neelam Kothari, and Seema Sajdeh.

Chef Gadit has previously emphasized the restaurant’s commitment to quality. Despite controversy surrounding a so-called “fake paneer” incident, he stated that the uproar ironically boosted business. “Everything we provide is top-notch,” he insisted. The backlash appears to have inadvertently drawn more attention to Torii’s uncompromising standards.

Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana: From Dining Room to Silver Screen

As Torii grows in prominence, so too does the Khan family’s footprint in entertainment. Shah Rukh Khan, last seen in a trio of 2023 blockbusters—Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki—is currently filming King, a much-anticipated action-thriller directed by Siddharth Anand. The project marks the theatrical debut of his daughter Suhana Khan, who first appeared in Netflix’s The Archies under the direction of Zoya Akhtar. Abhishek Bachchan also plays a pivotal role in the film.

This collaboration signifies not just a generational shift in Bollywood but also an intersection of legacy, mentorship, and evolution within one of India’s most revered film families.

A Brand Built on Legacy and Luxury

Torii stands as a microcosm of Gauri Khan’s brand—a blend of aesthetic elegance, exclusivity, and familial warmth. While its culinary offerings cater to discerning palates, its behind-the-scenes allure—symbolized by the “secret doorway”—is a quiet reminder of the balance celebrities must strike between public fascination and personal space.

As Mumbai’s culinary scene continues to expand, Torii offers a unique proposition: elite dining wrapped in intimate hospitality, curated by a family that has long redefined Indian celebrity culture. In this sense, the restaurant is more than a business—it’s a living, breathing extension of the Khan legacy.
