As Pakistan navigates a precarious fiscal landscape, China has pledged to refinance USD 3.7 billion in maturing commercial loans—this time denominated in Chinese yuan rather than U.S. dollars. The strategic shift, part of Beijing’s broader campaign to reduce its reliance on the greenback, is expected to help Islamabad maintain its foreign reserves in double digits through the end of June.

Maharashtra CM Highlights Environmental Risks of Single-Use Plastics Amid Industrial Growth Initiatives

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has identified single-use plastic as the foremost environmental menace, emphasizing the lack of sustainable alternatives as a key obstacle to a complete ban. Speaking at an event hosted by Balrampur Chini Mills, Fadnavis acknowledged the paradox of policy versus practice: despite bans, half of plastic usage remains single-use due to packaging and export requirements. He also underscored the complexities facing the sugar industry, where pricing mechanisms can paradoxically render raw materials costlier than finished products.
