The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has introduced a new benchmark for agarbattis (incense sticks), aiming to strengthen product safety, quality, and consumer trust. The revised standard addresses chemical composition, combustible materials, and emission limits, ensuring adherence to health and environmental guidelines. Industry stakeholders anticipate that this regulatory intervention will enhance domestic production quality, improve export competitiveness, and boost consumer confidence in the category.

India's toy industry has undergone a significant quality transformation since the implementation of the Toys (Quality Control) Order in January 2021. According to data released by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), 91% of over 17,800 toy samples tested since the order’s rollout were found compliant with Indian safety standards. The increased surveillance and legal enforcement have resulted in a substantial improvement in the safety and reliability of toys available in the domestic market.
