India’s flagship financial inclusion initiative, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), has reached a remarkable milestone with 56.16 crore bank accounts opened and total deposits crossing Rs 2.68 lakh crore. Launched in 2014, the scheme has played a pivotal role in expanding access to banking services for previously unbanked populations, fostering digital adoption, and enabling direct benefit transfers. The growth in deposits highlights both increasing trust in the formal banking system and the scheme’s role in mobilizing household savings.
