India is making strategic strides in infectious disease preparedness, with the National Institute of Virology (NIV) leading efforts to develop indigenous vaccines and diagnostic tools for a range of high-risk viruses beyond dengue. While the country’s first homegrown dengue vaccine nears completion of human trials, work is also underway on vaccines for Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD), Chandipura, Nipah, and Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).
